And the fact that I can boot up using either drive (either of which boots up in about 15 seconds) sure provides some security and peace of mind.

I have to say that I really like the combination of Sierra 12.2 and Logic 10.3. That meant that I now basically that I could upgrade the Evo to Sierra 12.2 and still have the Pro able to boot up into Yosemite 10.5. Because I have had nightmarish experiences when I changed operating systems I decided to clone the Evo 850 onto the Pro 850.

However, with the release of Logic X 10.3 I decided to upgrade the operating system to Sierra 12.2. I would imagine that the Crucial SSD is fine. I also have the Samsung Evo 850 in the same computer and for all intents there is no difference I can see - milliseconds at best. I bought the Samsung 850 Pro because I found a screaming good deal on Craigslist. So far, I have thrown anything I want at it and there have been no resource issues. This Xmas, I had enough and I upgraded to a 2015 with an i7 quad core with 16 GB. I was able to write a song - but I had to limit the tracks to ~16. I bought a few Waves plugins and these were pretty much a non starter - I got System Overload right away unless I soloed the track. I had to be careful about what software instruments I used - as some are more taxing on resources.

I had to freeze tracks constantly to minimize the load on the CPU's.

However, I was pretty limited in what I could do and I ran into System Overload issues unless I was very stingy with the resources I had - noting that my CPU was still obsolete. Since your unit has an i7 already, I would say that you would be better off, but the memory upgrade will help as you add more tracks. I was able to run Logic Pro X after making a few upgrades:ġ) I swapped the original hard drive for an SSD I had a MBP 2009 which has lower specs than your unit. As with anything, I would say it depends.
